Sugata Mitra's Ted Talk

Image
In Sugata Mitra's Ted Talk where he talks about the impact and advances that self-directed learning and technology have caused in education. This valuable information has made me reflect deeply on my teaching role, what I have to do, and what I can contribute to young learners in an online learning environment. Mitra's talk highlights the position of young people in these modern times. The engine that moves them to continue having good academic performance is the power of curiosity, exploration, and self-organization in the academic learning process. This makes me think that we teachers of didactic education in all class subjects have to be innovative, we have to update ourselves and always keep looking for how to be at the forefront to make our teaching a pleasant and successful experience. It is important to know our students and to know what their needs and strengths are in order to adapt our knowledge of technology, to be able to combine them with the materials and curricul...

The podcast 1619

Image
At first, when I started listening to some podcast audio, it didn't seem attractive or interesting to me, rather it seemed boring to me because it was something new and I didn't understand much. But as I got updated on how to use the technology that I have at my fingertips and my smartphone, I have become a fan and addicted to listening to podcasts while driving, cleaning, and doing chores, or when I go for a walk. Now I consider this tool very essential in my life and I cannot miss it during the course of the day. I like listening to self-improvement articles, science fiction, and real-life cases, I really like listening to millionaire minds channels, motivational real estate updates, etc. Currently, I am always recommending or sharing the podcasts that I think will benefit my closest friends, and my family and I try to instill it in my two young sons Emmanuel and Gabriel, 15 and 13 years old.    I really liked listening to the moving and unfortunate experience of the 1619 po...

What is your relationship to Disney culture? How does Christiansen validate or challenge your views?

Image
I grew up fascinated by watching the animated films of the Walt Disney Company. My family and I are a humble family where we have always had what the necessary to live in a dignified way and without deficiencies. For me, watching movies such as Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland, etc. was a privilege. My entire world became a world of dreams, fantasies, and magic where miracles could happen, perhaps becoming a beautiful girl full of luxuries, and prestige, and being able to conquer a strong, brave, rich man who was my perfect complement to achieve success and happiness. But the harsh reality was that I don't have blue eyes, nor am I blonde, nor do I have white skin, much less do I have elite social status. That's why I think that we viewers who are not represented in these important films tend to be conformists and we are only going to follow the same patterns (the working-class laborers who are ignorant) that the Walt Disney Company and ...

Danah Boyd Digital Literacy "It is Complicated"

Image
Digital technology literacy skills will need to continue to develop to keep up with our students on a regular basis. Boyd urges and advises us to continue to learn about Digital technology as consumers and as teachers so that we can properly teach our students without making assumptions about their abilities, strengths, or weaknesses. Keeping a good balance in our classrooms will be always challenging because Youth want to always be with smartphones, and laptops, or have access to use technology without being timed or having any limitations. We must always be interested in and provide access to digital technology to those who do not have it within their reach and advocate for them to have the right to free public education including the technological tools for their learning. Chapter 7 of Boyd helps us to reflect and see the reality of things that have to do with technology and social media. We must be aware that young people have more power, performance, and capacity than we cou...

TED TALK Mr. Ken Robinson

Image
The explanation and the point of view that Mr. Ken Robinson has regarding the educational system in modern times: "How to escape the valley of death of education" is very interesting. Mr. Robinson, through his talk, helps us open our eyes to the reality of why the educational system has its failures despite the constant adjustments and updates to improve the quality of the curricula to improve teaching and learning. What strikes me a lot about this talk is that he is very open, convincing, and objective when talking about "Common Core" educational policies with his standards. I was surprised that he spoke openly and was direct in criticizing education in the United States, which is far from reality to encouraging academic unification. Mr. Ken Robinson emphasized his views and arguments that clearly go against the American education system. His main criticism is quite accurate since, as he mentioned, the statute of "No Child Left Behind" is ironic. Becaus...

A little bit about my summer

Image
My name is Linda, I will soon graduate in December 2023 as a World Language Spanish teacher. My summer 2023 is going very well, although a bit busy taking summer classes and working full-time. I think these last two years have been a bit overwhelming because I've been so busy with classes and work. But I am excited that I will be traveling to Cancun Mexico for two weeks in August with my family.
