TED TALK Mr. Ken Robinson
The explanation and the point of view that Mr. Ken Robinson has regarding the educational system in modern times: "How to escape the valley of death of education" is very interesting. Mr. Robinson, through his talk, helps us open our eyes to the reality of why the educational system has its failures despite the constant adjustments and updates to improve the quality of the curricula to improve teaching and learning.
What strikes me a lot about this talk is that he is very open, convincing, and objective when talking about "Common Core" educational policies with his standards. I was surprised that he spoke openly and was direct in criticizing education in the United States, which is far from reality to encouraging academic unification. Mr. Ken Robinson emphasized his views and arguments that clearly go against the American education system.
His main criticism is quite accurate since, as he mentioned, the statute of "No Child Left Behind" is ironic. Because in reality many children are left behind in superficial and subtle indirect ways. The American educational system, so regularized and with high standards and centralizations, is too rigid for most students and they end up being overwhelmed and stressed to such a degree that they lose interest in continuing with their academic studies. It is for this reason that all school districts in the United States face a constant battle with the problem of non-attendance to school classes and especially High School students.
It is very interesting, and I identified with Mr. Robinson when he mentioned that he is an international student and that he also opted to put into practice his knowledge and part of the European education system to make a combination and have academic and professional success. In the same way, I believe that it is a great opportunity and experience that we come from foreign countries and that the majority of immigrants come to this great nation to improve our education and quality of life. However, with the rigidity of the educational system with its standards and test assessments, US and international students have a great struggle to meet the high expectations of the academic curriculum regulations. Those who do not give up and focus with the help and support of teachers and family members can overcome obstacles and reach the goal, of obtaining success in their education.
I believe that as teachers, regardless of the subject we are teaching, we have to continue giving our best to follow the curriculum but put our essence and strategies to prepare our students. We must remember that the United States of America is one of the most important world powers in the world and that is why testing standards and regulations are rigid to achieve success. But we also need to be aware and very open-minded to find out what is working in our education system and what is not. We must never lose focus that our education system must comply with "No Child Left Behind" as we continue to make updates, adaptations, and changes in our modern age driven by advances in technology. In this way, the failures in the education system will be corrected and the quality of teaching and learning of our diverse American communities will be improved.
